Part of the reason why many people join the Young Republicans is to have access and get to know the candidates in all the different races. However, how many times have you heard a candidate at the podium and you can recite their speech simultaneously while sitting in the crowd? Broward County Young Republicans have always held firm to the belief that we don’t want to be talked at, we want to be talked with. Instead of standing in front of us and spitting back a stump speech, we prefer to engage with our candidates and get to know each of them on a more personal level. For some races we are deciding who to vote for and in other races the decision is “will I help this individual”. Remember folks, we are the backbone of campaigns in Broward. We have the energy and the youth to walk door to door, to sit for hours phone banking and to do the grunt work needed to get candidates elected. We have dedicated two of our meetings (June and August) specifically for the candidates. Both of these meetings will take place prior to the August Primary Elections and will truly help each of you make the important decision of which Republican you will vote for come August 24th.

Wednesday, June 2nd: SPEED STUMPING

You have heard of Speed Dating, well apply that same theory to campaigns and you will get Speed Stumping. Join us at our regular meeting location as we break up into tables and the candidates rotate the room. Have questions ready because you will have a couple minutes of their undivided attention. AND…candidates, remember first impressions count.

Wednesday, August 4th: Elevator Speeches

As mundane as riding an elevator is, it actually can be a pretty interesting experience. Have you ever tried to hold a conversation or get to know someone within just a few floors. Have you ever been in a silent elevator that it feels like takes forever to move just one floor. We are using that same concept with our August meeting. Candidates will have just a few minutes to WOW us with their speeches as the YR elevator moves up 11 floors.  If you had just a few moments to win someones vote, what would you say?
